How to Prevent Neck Pain and Have Great Posture While Sitting at Your Computer Desk

Written By Dr. David Wren Chiropractic on October 5, 2018

Neck pain is a serious issue for many people.

With more jobs relying on corner offices or even remote work, the likelihood of developing pain because of the way you sit at your desk skyrockets.

When sitting for hours at a time, your posture may suffer for the worse.

What Can Be Done to Cure and Prevent Neck Pain?

There are simple ways to tackle this preventable problem that could have. Read these four tips and tricks to tackle neck pain, even before it happens:

1. Have Good Posture

Slouching and even bending just a tiny bit can put a lot of intense pressure on your neck. Sitting up straight is the key to promoting good posture as well as relieving a good deal of pressure off of your neck.

There are times where this can get pretty tiring, so feel free to get up and walk around if you need to. But by putting good habits in place, it will become an easier thing to do.

2. Get a Good Chair

Sitting on a stool or a chair with weak back support forces you to do all of the work to keep your head up, potentially causing both neck and back pain. A good chair with proper support can make all of the difference, so make an investment in a good chair to save yourself from neck aches later.

Don’t know the best way to adjust your chair? Match it at the level of your kneecaps and you are good to go.

3. Have Your Desk and Chair at a Good Height

If you find yourself always looking down at your screen, you need to be sitting at a better height.  Try finding time to research and purchase either a new desk or an adjustable chair to readjust the height you sit at.

4. Get a Standing Desk

Skip the chair and invest in a standing desk, the new way to improve health and save your neck and back. This is a great option for people who work from home or for people who have innovative offices that allow for out-of-the-box ideas.

What If I’m Still Having Pain?

Sometimes, simple adjustments just don’t cut it.

A trip to the doctor may suggest you need professional intervention, such as medication or a chiropractor. Visiting a licensed chiropractor can not only readjust your body, but your life as well.
